Artist in the Schools Program

Plumas Arts Art Education program offers all elementary teachers in Plumas County the opportunity to participate in the Artist in the Schools Program. The program brings local artists into the classroom for 4 - one hour workshops in the disciplines of drama, dance, visual arts, music poetry and creative writing. Teachers can elect to have an extended 12 week arts program once again this year thanks to a California Arts Council Arts Education Grant, thereby deepening the arts experience within the chosen art genre. Students gain inspiration and experience through consecutive exposure to such workshops as Ceramics,Basic Dance, What is Acting?, Play Production, Music, Rhythm and Movement ,Chorus, Exploration of Environmental Experience through Art and Creative Writing, Introduction to Drawing through Science Illustration, Basic Drawing and Art History, Painting from Nature, and Color Exploration with Watercolor. Artists are selected from the local community based on their ability to convey their particular subject matter and their enthusiasm and skills in working with children. Artists utilize the Visual and Performing Arts State Content Standards with a grade appropriate focus to deepen students' understanding and appreciation of the arts. The Artist in the Schools Program is made possible through the financial support of Plumas Arts members, the Plumas County Office of Education and the California Arts Council.
